The Blind Butcher Opens on Bainbridge Island, Bringing a Return to Craft, Trust, and Traditional Butchery.

Bainbridge Island, WA - 2026

Raised in South Africa, Allen Brown grew up around a style of butchery rooted in trust where the relationship between farmer, butcher, and customer is personal. Meat has a source, a story, and a standard.

When Allen and his wife, Leandri, relocated to Bainbridge Island more than a decade ago, they found a place they love and are eager to bring that South African standard of butchery to island life.

The flavor.
The quality.
The care.

They missed the butchery culture they had known where animals were respected, sourcing mattered, and skilled hands transformed whole cuts into something meaningful for the table.

The Blind Butcher was born from that absence.

A return to craftsmanship.
To transparency.
To food that connects farm and family.

Opening on Bainbridge Island, The Blind Butcher offers thoughtfully sourced meats, traditional techniques, and a level of care designed to serve both everyday shoppers and more experienced home cooks. With clear sourcing, visible markers of quality, and straightforward preparation guidance, the shop aims to make high-quality meat more accessible and more trustworthy.

For customers accustomed to grocery store quality, The Blind Butcher provides a more transparent and supportive experience, offering clear labeling and practical cooking guidance. For engaged home cooks, the shop builds trust through education, sourcing insight, and recommendations that go beyond routine. And for those already attuned to quality, the focus remains where it belongs: exceptional product, handled with integrity.

More than a butcher shop, The Blind Butcher is designed as a place of community where conversations around food, sourcing, and preparation are part of the experience. With a long-term vision centered on community, the brand aims to cultivate a loyal following built on trust, quality, and shared values.
